Body-protected areas in Australian Capital Territory

In the ACT, the electrician lodges a Certificate of Electrical Safety with Access Canberra after testing. Access Canberra audits all new installations, and new installations aren’t energised until they pass.

What to do as the practice

  • Tell your electrician which rooms are patient areas and how each will be used.
  • Allow time in the programme for the Access Canberra audit on new installations.
  • Book the retest within 12 months, and before any alterations.

Testing, everywhere

AS/NZS 3003 requires routine inspection and testing of body-protected areas at intervals not exceeding 12 months. The date of the last test goes on the label at the door.
